In a recent development, three teachers allegedly involved in an employment scam totaling GH¢394,500 have been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court. Samuel Mensah Amelikpo, David Bacha Ntenyam, and Daniel Ofori Boateng, accused of defrauding 42 individuals under the pretext of securing jobs within the Ghana Education Service (GES), each received bail set at GH¢350,000.
According to police reports presented in court by Chief Inspector Daniel Danku, the accused individuals purportedly convinced Sumaila Awueidze, a resident of Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region, that they had the means to secure teaching positions within the GES. Allegedly, Amelikpo, residing in Awoshie, Accra, initiated communication with the complainant in August 2023, claiming to have access to GES recruitment slots through protocol. He assured the complainant of job placements and promised refunds if the recruitment failed.

The prosecution stated that based on these representations, the complainant organized 42 applicants who paid a total of GH¢394,000 to Amelikpo, who subsequently failed to fulfill his promises and went into hiding. Despite attempts to reach Amelikpo, the complainant was unsuccessful, prompting a report to the police.
Subsequently, Amelikpo was arrested on October 18, 2023, in Odorgonno, Accra, where he admitted to receiving the funds but failing to secure the promised jobs. He implicated Bacha and Boateng as accomplices, leading to their arrests on November 10, 2023, in Asamankese and Asante Effiduase respectively.
During the investigation, Bacha confessed to receiving GH¢388,000 from Amelikpo and passing it on to Boateng and another individual, Reuben Bempoh, for recruitment purposes. Boateng admitted to receiving funds from both Amelikpo and Bacha, transferring the money to Vodafone Cash wallet accounts provided by Bempoh, who claimed to work at the GES National Headquarters in Accra.
As the case progresses, the police have retrieved GH¢70,000 from Boateng, which has been returned to the complainant. The police continue their investigations into the matter.
The accused individuals have denied the charges against them, and the case has been adjourned to April 30, 2024. They are required to report to the police every Wednesday as part of their bail conditions.
