You cannot do away with being a member of teacher unions such as GNAT, NAGRAT, or CCT. Teachers are allowed to join the association(s) that interest them. The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) works through two (2)
main structures. The names of the structures are Political and Administrative structures. Each of the two (2) structures runs the Association for good.

Socio – Economic and Welfare Services
Article 3(1)(d) of the GNAT Constitution as amended in 2018, mandates the leaders of the Association to provide internal economic and other appropriate and relevant welfare services for members.
This has resulted in the provision of several welfare packages for members since the 1970s.
Trade Union Education
Article 3(1) (a),(e) and (h) of the GNAT Constitution as amended in 2018 mandates the association to promote equal rights to all members as well as promote organic solidarity among members of the teaching fraternity. We cooperate with other workers’ unions in and outside Ghana. By this, we educate our members on their rights and responsibilities as employees and the need to join a Union.
Education & Professional Development
Article 3(1) (c), (f), (j) and (k) of the GNAT Constitution as amended in 2018 mandates the Association to promote high academic standards, professional competence and exemplary conduct for members. We promote and protect the rights and interests of the child, as well as place the services of the Association at the disposal of individuals, public bodies and other organizations in pursuit of education.
