The President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Mr. Dennis Appiah Larbi-Ampofo spoke at a meeting with the President of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last year, 3rd November 2022 on the NSS Allowance increment topic.
In the submission of the NUGS President, he requested that the NSS allowance should be increased from GH¢559.00 to GH¢800.00.
How much is NSS allowance 2023?
NSS allowance as of February 2023 is still Gh¢559.00 since time immemorial till date. The government has paid the November & December 2022 allowance of some National Service Personnel from the University.
BRIEF ABOUT THE START OF NSS ALLOWANCE
Before the current increment, it was GH¢243.48. The increment shot the NSS allowance to the current GH¢559.00. Since 2014 till date, there has not been any increment yet.

Last year, the 2022 NUGS President engaged the President of Ghana on the NSS Allowance topic where NUGS requested GH¢800.00 as the new NSS Allowance.

Ms. Gifty Oware-Mensah, Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS) disclosed the hint on the increment of NSS allowance.
In her Tv interview last year 2022, she publicized that the Akufo-Addo-led administration will increase the allowance this year, 2023 from the long-paid GH¢559.00 to GH¢800.00.
However, the government is putting in the right measures before they announce the new NSS allowance.

How much is the increased NSS allowance
As of February 2023, the NSS allowance paid to some Service Personnel was GH¢559.00 (i.e November & December 2022 allowance which was paid in February 2023).

It is of high hope to National Service Personnel (NSP) that the government of Ghana will listen to their pleas and adjust swiftly to their cry because the current NSS allowance is nothing to write about.
Some of the National Service Personnel are lamenting about the small quota given to them. They added that the allowance cannot take them for the period of one (1) month, make savings, and plan better for the coming permanent posting.

In a nutshell, planning their life and survival cannot be fueled by the meagre GH¢559.00 government is paying. They need the increment.
