CCT-GH President addresses teacher concerns including CPD allowance, appointment revocation, upgrading and promotion

The President of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT-GH), Ghana, King Ali Awudu, has spoken about the pressing issues bordering teachers.

In a meeting held via Zoom on February 28, 2025, moderated by the Communication Officer of CCT, teacher concerns, including CPD allowance, appointment revocation, upgrading and promotion, organizing GES virtual training for teachers, an end-of-year package, and Base Pay negotiation were all touched.R

According to the speech delivered by King Ali Awudu, he talked and explained the following:

CPD issues
On this, King Ali Awudu stated that:

  1. each teacher is to accrue a CPD point of 20 annually.
  2. an amount of GH¢200 that was deducted from CPD allowance has two (2) roles to play with regard to CPD.

The two (2) roles according to Mr. Ali Awudu are as follows:

a. GES will organize virtual training for teachers.

b. The second one shall be done on the circuit or on a school basis, where resource personnel shall visit as well.

The slated month for this innovative exercise is March 2025. Simply put, it will commence in March 2025.

On the issue of Base Pay negotiation, King Ali Awudu made it crystal clear that the agreed 10 percent salary increment for the public sector workers was not enough even though they were at the negotiation table.

He explained that the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, after negotiations, stood at 5%, and it took the intervention of President John Dramani Mahama to readjust it to 10 percent.

The meeting went on, and he, the CCT President, talked about the distortion created by the government in relation to appointment revocation of teachers.

He stated that the Union is still pushing for the teachers whose appointments were revoked to be restored.

King Ali urged all teachers who had their appointment on 8th November to be at post pending the Union’s engagement with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Fast forward to upgrading and promotion, King Ali tasked all the various Regional Chairpersons of the Union to engage their respective Regional Directors to know the current status of promotions and the upgrading of the lower ranks.

End-of-year Package

The President of PRETTAG said emphatically that zones and members who are yet to receive their end-of-year package can be assured of the same by the end of March 2025.

Communication Bureau establishment

In conclusion, it was noted that a communication bureau had been established to be the original mouthpiece of the Union.

The role of the bureau is to communicate effectively to the members to bring the Union to the doorsteps of the members.

As such, a virtual monthly engagement with the President of the Union to interact with the members to address and redress pressing issues among members.
