On a discussion table of cruelty against Persons With Disability (PWD), superstition cannot be taken out. It was believed ages ago that the ancestors and Gods unleashed their punishment on the normal people by destroying the children of the normal beings on earth. Generations ago have the belief that the ancestors and Gods “see more in the spiritual realm” than the normal, and therefore, any child born handicapped to the living/normal is a signal to them on going wayward or reaping fruit of their practice against others on earth and in the spiritual realm.

Secondly, ignorance stand as another factor that makes people to treat people with disabilities cruelly. Countless people are ignorant about what causes the disability. Per study, a large number of people has less or are ignorant about the etiology of the condition that they treat people badly on. Knowing the etiology of what you visualize informs one to handle such occurrence with informed mind and better approach in dealing with people with such handicapped conditions. Since people were ignorant about the causes (etiology) of disabilities, they only act on their perceived idea of the cause.

Moreover, the unsophisticated system of education contributes to treating PWD cruelly. The generation(s) that existed during the pre-christian era do not look at disability from the angle of science. The use of scientific approach on disability was not high during the said era. Therefore, many studies were not duged into what and why such “strange” beings been born in the midst of the “normal”. The refusal/not having idea about finding the best solution to the troubling occurrence (PWD) in that era also contributed largely to treating PWD cruelly.

Finally, the demand for healthy and able-bodied people for wars was the topmost priority hence, leading to treating the opposite cruelly. Years dated back, wars were used to conquer a nation in order to showcase the superiority of the winning nation. Military conquest was used, it demands physically fit individuals who can stand firmly and conquer a nation, therefore Persons With Disability (PWD) were not regarded as fit and healthy to achieve their intended course. Simply, it means Persons With Disability were perceived to be liability to the society instead of them being assets. Based on that military demand, people with disabilities were treated cruelly and on no value basis.

In conclusion, the discussed factors in this article contributes largely to the giving of cruel treatment to Persons With Disability (PWD) in a lot of our societies until the use of scientific approach lens, education, constant preaching of the gospel, actions of NGOs, and laws (United Nations Charter on Human Rights) among others surfaced to be a saviour to the wide spreading cruel treatment of disabled persons globally.
