The National Service Scheme (NSS) Secretariat has changed the end of 2023 Service duration.
Earlier, the appointment letter of the Service Personnel from the 46 Colleges of Education (CoE) in the country bears January 2023 as the start date for their Service and December 2023 as the end month.
However, the Scheme has today, 14th March 2023 updated the dashboard for NSS Personnel with February 6 2023 as the start date.
In effect, it means the 2023 Service duration which has to end in December 2023 has been pushed forward to January 2023 but with a leave period.
The Service has been extended to next year January 2024 but the said January is a terminal leave month. No Personnel will work in January 2024.
Part of the new appointment letter in the portal reads:
Your period of national service starts from February 06, 2023 and ends on January 31, 2024. You will be entitled to one month terminal leave (usually in the month of January)
Please note that appointment is under a SUBVENTED CATEGORY. Service personnel under this category are those posted to Ministries, Agencies and Departments that depend entirely on Government for financial support.
While doing your national service, the Scheme will pay you a monthly non-taxable allowance of Five Hundred and Fifty Nine Ghana Cedis, Four Pesewas (GHC559.04).
However, it is important to note that this monthly allowance would be calculated on the basis of the number of days you show up for work with your User Agency.
During this period of service, your supervisor at the User Agency to which you are attached shall be required to submit a completed Monthly Duty Assessment Report on you, duly commented and signed by you to the National Service Scheme towards payment of your allowances and certification at the end of your service.
Please note that once a national service appointment is accepted, all personnel are required to strictly observe and comply with the National Service Rules and Regulations, other policies issued by the Scheme, and any other Regulations governing the establishment of the User Agency to which you are attached.
