Oti Region: Likpe Mate appeals for aid after devastating wind damages Likpe Mate E.P Basic School

By | August 18, 2024

Likpe Mate, Oti Region – The people of Likpe Mate in the Guan district are seeking assistance from the Government, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and philanthropists to repair the severely damaged Likpe Mate E.P. Basic School.

According to our checks, a heavy windstorm tore off the school’s roofs about four (4) to five (5) months ago, leaving the building in a precarious state. Our checks also confirmed that during the period stated, no support was given; therefore, teaching and learning activities were going on until schools went down on July 25, 2024.

The physical structure of the school was a donated project by Plan Ghana, an NGO to support education in the area. Currently, the school is in a poor state and requires comprehensive rehabilitation. Classrooms lack ceilings, despite the presence of ceiling structures, and are now directly exposed to the sun. This can affect the health of school children.

A school should be a place laced with a conducive environment and facilities that will promote learning and develop the learners for the future holistically. In the case of Likpe Mate E P. Basic School, the situation is unhealthy.

Although schools are currently on vacation, the community is worried about potential risks and disruptions when classes resume on September 10, 2024. If left unaddressed, parents may advise their wards to ensure safety.

The community is appealing to NGOs and philanthropists to repair the school before the new academic term begins.
“We urge all concerned organizations and individuals to respond to this call for help and make a positive impact on the education and well-being of Likpe Mate,” a concerned citizen stressed.
