Mr. Edward Ekuadzi, a 36-year-old pupil teacher in Aflao, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for having carnal knowledge of his 17-year-old daughter in their living room at Awakorme.
He appeared before the Denu Circuit Court on 2nd May 2025 when he pleaded guilty simpliciter to the charge.
The facts of the case as presented by the prosecution are that the complainant, Madam Christy Kwau, is a trader and biological mother of the victim ( Name withheld), who is 17 years old.
Both the complainant and the accused are divorced, while the victim, a Senior High student, has lived with the convict since infancy.
On 22/04/2025 at about 10:00 am, the victim went to the complainant at Sepenukope and refused to go back to the accused. After the complainant asked the victim for her reasons, she confided in the complainant that sometime in March, 2025 at about 4:20am and on 17/04/2025, also at 4:30 am, the accused forcibly had sexual intercourse with her in their living room and warned her not to disclose to anyone or risked dying.
The complainant then reported the case at Aflao Police Station, and a medical form was issued to her to send the victim to a hospital for examination.
The accused, now convict was arrested and interrogated on 30/04/2025. He confessed to having sexual intercourse with the victim on 3 occasions.
Section 105 of ACT 29 provides as follows: A male of not less than 16 years of age who has a carnal knowledge of a female whom he knows is his grand – daughter, daughter (emphasis is mine), sister ……. commits a criminal offence and is liable on conviction to a term of imprisonment of not less than three years and not more than 25 years.
