September 2024 GES Recruited Teachers– A section of the September 2024 Newly Posted Teachers have been denied salaries to date. These sections of teachers have been teaching without pay for months (from September 2024 to February 2025).
From gathered complaints across groups, it is evident that the Teacher Unions seem not to help solve the eating-up challenge these sections of teachers are facing.
Other affected Newly Posted Teachers shared that they have been assured of addressing the problem, but their major concern is that no communique has been released officially to that effect despite having been told to binge their hopes on being paid
Adding voice to this giant call, a well-known informative teacher platform, Informed Teachers Network (ITN) helped to echo/amplify the issues for a swift redress.
“Newly recruited teachers in Ghana are being treated like orphans in the system. No union is fighting for them. No authority seems to care.
“These teachers were recruited in September 2024, but it wasn’t until December that payments started. And even then, only Greater Accra teachers got their full four-month arrears. Others got one or two months, and some got nothing at all.

“Then came January 2025, and the disparities grew worse. Some teachers were paid a fraction of their arrears, others were validated for all months but still got GH¢ 0.00, and many weren’t even on the payment list.
“Now it’s February, and the same problems persist. Some still don’t have Staff IDs, meaning they can’t even be processed for payment. Others have been validated but still got nothing. The biggest issue? Many who were paid only one or two months of their 2024 arrears are now being paid for 2025, with their 2024 arrears completely ignored.
“These teachers knew nobody was going to fight for them, so they formed a coalition and wrote a letter addressing the Director General of GES, Regional Directors, and District Directors. But knowing how slow the system works, they also took the fight to social media—Facebook, X (Twitter), and WhatsApp. That’s what finally got them noticed.
“The pressure led to a meeting with the former Director General, Dr. Eric Nkansah, on January 23, 2025. But instead of addressing their issues, the meeting became a lecture about why they shouldn’t have taken their grievances to social media. So, speaking out is a crime now?
“They apologized—not because they were wrong, but because they knew they had to be strategic.
“What They Found Out
“Some salaries were delayed because of biometric verification issues, which should have been handled by GES.
“They made their way to the Controller. At CAGD, they were told it was a regional office issue.
“At the regional office, they were told it was not their responsibility.
“So, who exactly is responsible? The Silence Is Loud
“Now, let’s ask the real questions:
1. Why is GES silent? Are newly recruited teachers expected to just accept working for months without pay?
2. Where are the teacher unions? Especially GNAT, who becomes automatic parents to these teachers once they are put on the payroll- takes dues from every new teacher but does nothing to fight for them.
3. Is this system designed to frustrate teachers from the word go? Because right now, that’s exactly what it looks like.
4. Are those amongst them without Staff IDs also affected by the insensitive revocation directive?
It’s not funny anymore.”
GES Appointment and Recruitment Revocation
Government through GES on February 17, 2025, revoked with immediate effect in accordance with the Chief of Staff’s directive the appointments and recruitment of Teaching and Non-Teaching staff who have not been placed on the payroll yet.
On the above directive from the government, the Newly Posted Teachers, recruited in September 2024, who were licensed and employed through the right procedure or recruited based on merit after being adequately prepared by the colleges of education and having passed their license exams (a prerequisite in this era to teach) but have not been placed on payroll (not having Staff ID) are now the victims.
The Executive Director of EDUWATCH, Kofi Asare, poured on Friday, February 21, 2025, his deep concern on the government’s decision about the revocation of appointments and recruitments of teachers in GES.
“What’s the basis for revoking the appointment of licensed teachers who were employed through the right procedure, and are teaching? What happens to the education rights of the thousands of children they are teaching?
The Gov’t must STOP This!.”
From other sources, this decision taken against teachers in GES has generated many conversations hopes are high that swift attention will be paid to the matter for a good outcome.
