TTAG updates trainees on allowance payment, CETAG strike and examination

The leadership of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has updated trainees on Colleges of Education Teachers’ Association of Ghana (CETAG) strike, trainees allowance payment and plans for examination.

These new development was reached at following engagement with the Honorable Minister for Education and the President of the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 to address the CETAG strike.

Below is the list of solutions from the engagement with the Honorable Minister for Education and the President of the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF):

  1. The Book and Research Allowances will be disbursed to CETAG members today, 25th July 2024 after confirmation from the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).
  2. The Honorable Minister assured the leadership of the Association of migrating CETAG members with MPhil to the position of Assistant Lecturers like their Colleagues in the Traditional Universities with all applicable terms and conditions and shall be done according to the dictates of the affiliate universities of the respective colleges.
  3. The PRINCOF has been directed to collaborate with affiliate universities to reschedule examination dates and timelines.
  4. Funds have been approved for the payment of the Teacher Trainees’ allowances as soon as possible.
  5. While it is ideal for the academic calendar to be extended to cater for the lost contact hours due to the feeding challenges Teacher Trainees face in the Colleges, weekends and night classes may be considered.

“The Honorable Minister of Education acknowledged the impact of the strike on the current academic calendar and has expressed willingness to engage in continuous negotiations with the CETAG for the strike to come to an end

“The leadership of TTAG entreat all Teacher Trainees to remain focus on their academic work and promote their professional excellence. As an Association, we remain resolute and committed to championing the interests of Teacher Trainees like the current industrial strike action and other concerns Teacher Trainees have,” TTAG added.
