GES release Basic Schools Sports Calendar for 2023 Academic Year

The 2023 Sports calendar for Basic Schools in Ghana has been released by the Physical Education department of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The calendar includes all activities expected to be undertaken in this year’s physical education exercise. It consists of Dates and Periods, Events and Activities, Venues, the specific Term for all activities under the Physical Education (P.E) Unit.

Events and Activities For 1st Semester (2023)

  1. Starting from 9th to 13th January 2023, there will be Workshops for all regional Physical education Coordinators. This workshop will be attended in the Ashanti Region specifically, Kumasi.
  2. All Schools will resume academic work on 10th January 2023.
  3. There will Inter schools Sports Competition. The event has been slated to start on the 1st day of February 2023 and come to an end on 18th February 2023 across all the 16 Regions in Ghana.
  4. Independence Day. Preparation for the Day will commence on the 19th day of February 2023 and come to an end on the 29th of February 2023. It will be an anniversary to be celebrated across all districts/municipals and regions in Ghana.
  5. On 6th of March 2023, that is Independence Day, activities and exercises will be held in all the appointed venues
  6. Between 14th March 2023 to 18th March 2023, there will be a General Meeting that will be held in Accra. It occurs annually.
  7. From 1st April 2023 to 9th April 2023, there will be a first term vacation for all schools which will be a week long.

Events and Activities for the 2nd Term in 2023

  1. In April, there will be Games, both field and track events for Primary Under 13, Under 15 and the senior teams.
  2. Between 15th May 2023 and 19th May 2023 Under 13 Zonal 1 will be held in Tamale (Upper East, Upper West Northern, and North East).
  3. Between 18th May 2023 and 23rd May 2023 Under 13 Zone 2 will also be held at Sunyani. Regions in this Zone are: i. Savannah. ii. Bono Ahafo. iii. Bono East.
  4. Between 21st May 2023 and 26th May 2023 U13 Zone 3 will take off at Takoradi. This Zone has / is made up of the listed Regions:

i. Ashanti.
ii. Western.
iii. Central.
iv. Western North.

  1. Between 24th May 2023 and 29th May 2023 U13 Zone 4 will be held at Kpando. The Zone will be represented by the following Region:

i. Oti.
ii. Volta.
iii. Eastern.
iv. Greater Accra.

  1. The National Under 13 Championship will commerce starting from 12th June 2023 to 17th June 2023 at Kumasi.
  2. The Second Term vacation is scheduled to start from 29th June 2023 to 9th July 2023 in all government Basic Schools in the country.

Events and Activities for the 3rd Term in 2023

  1. In the month of July, there will be Special Games in some selected schools.
  2. In August 2023, there will be Workshops or Seminars for physical education Personnel or teachers at Kumasi with the District Coordinators and Sports Secretaries.
  3. During the same month of August 2023, there will be Camping at designated parts of the Regions.
  4. Vacation for 3rd Term is scheduled to take off from 29th September 2023 in all Basic Schools in the country.
  5. During the vacation in the months of October and November of 2023, there will be a Basic Festival celebrated in Greater Accra.
