The Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations at the National Service Authority (NSA), Hon. Fuseni Donkor, has directed urgent recovery measures to revitalise the Authority’s farms following a nationwide inspection tour.

The tour was undertaken at the behest of the Director-General of the NSA, Mr Felix Gyamfi, who tasked Hon. Donkor with familiarising himself with the current state of affairs on the farms and recommending immediate interventions where necessary.

Inspection

In the Volta Region, Hon. Donkor inspected the NSA’s 40-acre maize farm at Kpetoe and the 100-acre maize farm at Abutia. However, all the cassava farmers operating on the Abutia farms are encroachers according to Hon. Fuseni Donkor.

He also instructed farm managers to engage and fairly compensate individuals encroaching on NSA lands, underscoring the importance of reclaiming every acre to support agricultural expansion.

Hon. Fuseni observed the deteriorating condition of grinding facilities and ordered the immediate repair of dryers and rehabilitation of warehouse infrastructure to ensure improved storage conditions.

Additionally, he stressed the urgent need to fast-track ploughing, harrowing, and planting activities to align with the critical planting season.

Water Supply

Addressing persistent water supply challenges, Hon. Donkor directed the drilling of at least two boreholes per farm. He also recommended the excavation of a natural dam at Kpetoe to enhance rainwater harvesting and boost irrigation efforts.

Continuing his tour in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Donkor inspected farms at Ejura, Kumawu, and Donkronkwanta.

At Ejura, where maize cultivation and poultry projects are ongoing, he confirmed that fertilisers had been delivered and land preparation was complete.

Observation

At Kumawu, he observed that land preparation was finished but emphasised the urgent need for rice seedlings to commence planting operations.
He also noted that alongside maize, tomatoes were being cultivated to diversify crop output.

Meanwhile, at Donkronkwanta, he confirmed the delivery of 60 bags of maize seedlings and the finalisation of planting preparations. He further noted that the farm’s drying facility was in good working condition.

Hon. Donkor announced plans to recruit local volunteers to augment farming operations, expressing optimism about a bumper harvest if activities were executed according to schedule.

Commending the farm managers for their dedication and hard work, he urged them to intensify efforts to boost yields and contribute significantly to the NSA’s overarching mission of advancing national agricultural development.
