The leadership of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has updated trainees on the feeding component of allowances.
In an official release by TTAG on 26th January 2023, they said they have been engaging in some levels of discussions by PRINCOF, GTEC, and MoE on the issues regarding the feeding component.
TTAG said, “the discussion brings to bear the continuous lamentations of PRINCOF on the daily hikes in food items in juxtaposition to the feeding component of the trainees’ allowances which remains GHC 6.50pesewas.”
However, the leadership (TTAG) acknowledges the concerns of the PRINCOF and admonishes that, the Ministry through Government makes some significant increment in the allowance to further yield an increment to the feeding component which has not seen light yet.
TTAG promised a possibility for an increment of the feeding component. On that, they disclosed that “with the leadership of PRINCOF together with the Ministry of Education engaged TTAG with a proposition of the possibility to increase the feeding component with a part of the amount (GHC 200) which comes to trainees.”
“The leadership withstood this proposition vehemently and asked that, the leadership be given some ample time to engage its constituents in the coming days at Congress to take a decision.
All teacher trainees across the 46 accredited Colleges of Education (CoE) have been wished a fruitful semester.
TTAG also spoke at length about the academic year and other fee charges by some Managements of the Colleges.
It was disclosed in the recent update that it some Managements of Colleges of Education has charged outrageous fees for the 2022/2023 academic year which is not inline with 15% increment approved by the Parliament of Ghana.
“The leadership has on its tables, the bills of some Colleges which accumulates the 15% increment approved by parliament and some other outrageous extra charges,” TTAG backs with evidence on their table.
Further, they said “An explicit individual breakdown of such extra charges has not been outlined neither have the students been engaged on these.
TTAG expressed their unpleasant feeling saying they wish to state “unequivocally that the leadership is displeased with such decisions from the managements of those colleges and will STAND with trainees against the payment of such extra charges until they are reversed.”
They also cautioned all SRCs not to negotiate any of extra charges and surcharging them on students.
